The formula
Hourly rate = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × weeks per year). For a standard full-time job that is salary ÷ 2,080 (40 × 52). A quick mental shortcut: halve the salary and drop the thousands. $60,000 a year is about $30 an hour ($28.85 exactly).
The "per hour actually worked" figure removes your paid days off from the hours, because you are paid for them without working. With 25 days off, a 2,080-hour salary covers only 1,880 working hours, which lifts the effective rate by about 11%.

Questions people ask
How do I convert my salary to an hourly rate?
Divide your annual salary by the number of hours you are paid for in a year. For 40 hours a week and 52 weeks that is 2,080 hours, so $52,000 a year is $25 an hour.
How much is $50,000 a year per hour?
About $24.04 an hour at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. At 37.5 hours a week it is about $25.64.
How much is $100,000 a year per hour?
About $48.08 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, or roughly $3,846 per biweekly paycheck before tax.
Should I use 2,080 or 2,000 hours?
2,080 (40 × 52) is the payroll standard because salaried employees are paid through holidays and vacation. 2,000 is a rough shortcut that assumes two unpaid weeks.
Why is my after-tax hourly rate so much lower?
Federal income tax, 7.65% Social Security and Medicare, and state tax all come out first. This calculator uses 2026 federal brackets with the standard deduction for a single filer.
